Environmental Planning

To achieve its Mission, "To Plan and Promote Regional Policies and Programs to Enhance the Vitality, Accessibility, and Quality of Life in our Communities," the Agency makes every effort within its budgetary constraints to prepare specialized reports and recommendations on environmental Issues.  In the past the Agency has completed such work in relation to the location of cell towers for mobile telephone service, rock and gravel removal operations, and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as watershed protection studies for the Merimere, Kenmere and Hallmere Reservoir Watersheds in 1993, The Pequabuck River Watershed Action Plan in 2000, and the Pequabuck River State of the Watershed Report in 2004. In addition, Agency staff will be completing a management plan for the Pequabuck River watershed by mid-2005.  The Agency is also represented on the steering committee of the Quinnipiac River Watershed Partnership, and monitors the progress of the Mattabasset River Watershed Management Plan. The CCRPA was prominent in the development of the Bristol Regional Resource Recovery Facility, and promoted expanded recycling activities throughout the Region. The Agency regularly reviews and supports state open space grant proposals for its member municipalities.

Important components of the Agency's transportation planning program is consideration of the environmental impacts of transportation projects and improvements to be gained through expanding opportunities for alternative transportation such as transit, walking and bicycling.
